Westerling's Late Heroics Push Women's Soccer Past Georgian Court, 1-0

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Oct. 9, 2013) - On Wednesday, sophomore midfielder
Hanna Westerling (Alvadalen, Sweden) netted the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to lead the LIU Post women's soccer team by Georgian Court, 1-0, in Lakewood, N.J. The victory was the Pioneers' sixth in a row.
With 5:24 left, Westerling dribbled in, and ripped a shot past Lions' sophomore netminder Casey O'Connor (Toms River, N.J.) for the deciding score. Freshman midfielder/forward
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) was credited with the assist, as she fed the pass to Westerling, who picked up her fourth marker of the year.

Katelyn Phillips (Littleton, Colo.) stopped four early opening-half opportunities by Georgian Court (7-3-1), before the visitors took over. The Pioneers subsequently attempted the ensuing three shots on net, but neither squad got on the board in the opening 45-minute session.
In the latter stanza, the green and gold controlled play, outshooting the opposition, 15-2. They also got the game-winner in the waning minutes, via a Westerling shot.
For the match, LIU Post recorded 24 shots to Georgian Court's eight. Both teams earned three corner kicks apiece.
