Williams, Pagan Lead Women's Basketball Past Pace, 80-67
Box Score PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2013) - All five starters for the LIU Post women's basketball team racked up double-digit point totals in Saturday's 80-67 win over Pace at the Goldstein Fit Center in Pleasantville, N.Y.
Junior guard
Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) led all players with a 24-point effort, going 8-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point land. Senior forward
Dominique Pagan (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied her first double-double of the season with a 12-point, 13-rebound showing. Senior guard
Kiki Sears (Hampton, Va.) added 11 points, while senior forward
Nijah LaCourt (Bronx, N.Y.) and senior guard
Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) each added 10.
With the win, the Pioneers improved to 2-1 on the season, while Pace fell to 0-3.
The teams battled back and forth throughout the first half, with the Pioneers' biggest lead coming when senior forward
Shayna Gatling (Baldwin, N.Y.) hit a lay-up to make it 35-31. The Setters closed out the half on an 8-5 run, but the Pioneers took a 40-39 advantage into halftime.
Williams finished with 10 first-half points, while Peters added eight of her own. The Pioneers also came away with seven steals in the first half, while the Setters had just one.
In the second half, the Pioneers used a fast start and rebounding to get ahead of the Setters. LIU Post opened the second half with a 19-3 run over the first 8:29 to open up a 59-43 lead. Williams led the charge with nine points during the run. Pagan and LaCourt both contributed four. With the Pioneers up 77-59 with 3:46 left in the game, the Setters mounted a comeback that fell short, with LIU Post coming out on top, 80-67.

Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action Saturday (Nov. 23), when they travel to Bloomfield, N.J. to take on Bloomfield. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
