Field Hockey Returns to No. 3 in NFHCA Top-10 Poll
CHANDLER, Ariz. (Nov. 5, 2013) - Following the completion of a perfect 18-0 regular season last weekend, the LIU Post field hockey team climbed to third in Tuesday's NFHCA/Penn Monto Division II Top-10 Poll. The Pioneers are back in that position, after spending a week at No. 4.
Shippensburg (150 points), which earned all 15 first-place nods, and Millersville (124 points) continue to top the ledger. West Chester (104 points) jumped ahead one spot to fourth, while Stonehill fell two notches to fifth with a 90-point total.
Bloomsburg (74 points), Merrimack (55 points), East Stroudsburg (31 points) and Limestone (28 points) occupied the six-through-nine slots, respectively. Indiana (Pa.) made its 2013 debut, and rounded out the census in 10th.
Last week, LIU Post finished off its undefeated regular season with an 8-1 rout of American International, and a 4-3 overtime victory against Stonehill. In the tilt with AIC on Tuesday, senior forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) collected a game-high seven points (3 G, 1 A) to pace the offense. Graduate defender Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) chipped in a five-point output (1 G, 3 A).
Then, on Saturday, the duo combined for four points versus Stonehill, one of which was Crouse's helper on Keliann Margiotta's (Sewell, N.J.) clinching goal. The South Africa native also blocked a potential game-winning shot from point-blank range just seconds before Margiotta's tally.
The Pioneers are in action next on Friday (Nov. 8), when they host either Adelphi or Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference Tournament semifinal at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start.
