WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 7, 2013) - A career-high 30-point, 10-rebound effort from junior guard Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) wasn't enough, as the LIU Post women's basketball team dropped its first East Coast Conference game of 2013-14 to District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon at UDC Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.

The loss evens the Pioneers' record at 3-3, including a 1-1 clip in conference play. The Firebirds improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in ECC tilts.

LIU Post opened the game on a 15-5 run over the first four-plus minutes of play. During the burst, Williams had five points and senior guard Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) added six.

UDC answered with an 18-5 run of its own to go ahead 23-20 at the 6:15 mark that was capped off by a lay-up by Teara Shaw. The Pioneers battled back though, and took a 32-31 advantage after Williams hit two free throws, but the Firebirds scored the first half's last four points to take a 35-32 lead into the break.

Williams led all players with 12 first-half points, while Peters chipped in eight.

In the second half, LIU Post came out of the gate quick and got back on top at 41-39 with 17:36 left in regulation via a 9-4 run. Yet, the Firebirds tied it at 41-all off a jumper from Denikka Brent that sparked a 20-5 run that was capped by a three-pointer from Telisha Turner. UDC would extend its lead to 14 at 64-50 when Tiara Goode drilled a three-pointer with 10:34 left to play.

With 4:30 to go, Shaw's lay-up gave the Firebirds their largest lead of the game at 20 (74-54), and UDC closed out the game and came away with the 85-75 win.

Senior guard Kiki Sears (Hampton, Va.) added 16 points and five rebounds, while Peters finished with 12.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action on Friday (Dec. 13), when they host Daemen in an ECC battle. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
