BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 10, 2013) – The LIU Post women's basketball team finished out the game on a 10-0 run to battle back within four points, but was unable to pull off the comeback over Roberts Wesleyan College dropping the game 70-66 at the Pratt Recreation Center Sunday evening.

LIU Post slips to 14-7 overall and 7-6 in the ECC, while Roberts Wesleyan improves to 11-10 including 6-8 in conference action.

The score remained close through the first nine minutes of the game with the score at 17-16 in favor of the Redhawks, but after a 12-2 run RWC held an 11-point advantage (29-18).  At the 2:46 mark, the Redhawks held their largest lead of the half at 12 with the score 32-20.  Kenyatta Sears (Hampton, Va.) hit a pair of free throws with 1:22 left in the game to cut the lead to 10, then a few seconds later Jalicia Connell (Westbury, N.Y.) came up with a steal, and Sears dribbled the length of the court and drained a jumper to pull within eight.  The Pioneers' next and final trip down the court, Connell fed Sears for her final trey of the half, bringing her team within five points.  Roberts Wesleyan held the 32-27 advantage going into the half.

The Pioneers continued to fight, but Roberts Wesleyan never let its lead slip to less than three for the entire second half and led by as many as 15 with 2:58 left in the game.  LIU Post only allowed the Redhawks to score two points in the remaining three minutes of play, while scoring 13 over the same span.  Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) sunk a pair of free throws with 21 seconds left to cut the lead to four, but that was the closest the Pioneers would come.  The Pioneers dropped the game 70-66.

Sears paced a trio of Pioneers to reach double figures with 19 points, including four steals and a career-high five three-pointers.  Peters added 15 points and five assits, while Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points.  Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was one point shy of a double-double, registering nine points and 10 rebounds.

The Redhawks' Marissa Sell recorded a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds.

The Pioneers hit the road Wednesday, Feb. 13 as they face off against the University of the District of Columbia at 5 p.m.
