FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2013) – Junior guard Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) scored a career-high 30 points against Queens College, but the Knights dealt the LIU Post women's basketball team a 74-71 loss at Fitzgerald Gym on Wednesday night.

The loss moves the Pioneers to 14-6 on the season and 7-5 in conference action.  Queens goes to 8-11 overall and 5-7 in ECC play.

The Pioneers controlled the tempo and the score through the first 11 minutes of play, holding their largest lead of the night, six points, at the 8:26 mark with the score 20-14.  The Knights quickly turned the momentum in their favor, scoring eight unanswered points to take a six point advantage.  Queens held its lead for the remainder of the half with the scoreboard reading 35-27 in favor of the Knights leading into the intermission.

A Peters' three-pointer and a jumper by junior Shayna Gatling (Baldwin, N.Y.) cut the Knights' lead to three (47-44) with 13:15 remaining in the game, but Queens answered back with a 19-7 run to increase its lead to 15 (66-51) at the 6:15 mark.  With 4:14 left to play, the Knights held a commanding 70-56 lead, but the Pioneers battled back to within one point with a 15-2 run highlighted by 10 points from Peters and capped with a crucial trey by Jalicia Connell (Westbury, N.Y.).  Unfortunately it was too little too late as the Knights' Bria Jackson drained two key free throws with 13 seconds remaining to clinch the three point victory.  Peters was unable to convert her three-point attempt at the buzzer to tie the score.  Queens came away with the 74-71 win.

Peters' 30 points led all players, and sophomore Chelsea Williams (Coppiague, N.Y.) scored 10 as the only other Pioneer to reach double figures.  Senior Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) led the Pioneers on the glass, pulling in five boards and added eight points.

For the Knights, Kristen Korzevinski's 23 points paced four players in double figures.  Jackson was right behind with a solid 16-point outing.

The Pioneers shot 49.2% (30-61) for the contest, while Queens was a bit better with a 52.9% (27-51) effort.  A season low 26 total rebounds hurt the Pioneers, while Queens crashed the boards harder, coming away with 36 rebounds.

The Pioneers look to bounce back in their next outing as they host ECC foe Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, February 9 starting at 1:30 p.m.
