McLaughin Leads Pioneers to 2 Wins in Florida 3/16/2013 5:39:00 PM Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 16, 2013) – Freshman Kelsey McLaughlin (Lido Beach, N.Y.) led the Pioneers offense to wins over Northwood University and Wayne State University in their last matchups of the Rebel Games in Florida. The Pioneers saw themselves down early as the Warriors scored three in the bottom half of the first inning. But LIU Post answered with five runs of their own in the top of the second inning. After a leadoff fly out, sophomore Aly Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) homered to center to put the Pioneers on the board. Freshman Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) then reached on a fielding error, junior Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) followed with a single and McLaughlin singled home Swantek. A single by junior Jessica Julich (Kings Park, N.Y.) put runners at second and third with one out. Sophomore Catherine Havens (Eastport, N.Y.) singled home Weber to tie the game at three. With the bases loaded, senior Kaci Hopkins (New Egypt, N.J.) reached on an error by the shortstop, plating McLaughin. After an infield fly, junior Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) walked to bring home the Pioneers fifth run of the inning. The Pioneers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Dzierzynski walked to lead off the inning. Weber laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Dzierzynski over to second. With two outs, McLaughlin drove in her second run of the game, giving the Pioneers a 6-4 lead they wouldn't relinquish. Weber picked up her fourth win of the season, improving to 4-3. In their second game of the day, the Pioneers topped the Timberwolves from Northwood University, 7-2. McLaughlin once again led the way, hitting a one-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. McLaughlin ended the game going 5-for-6 with a homer and four RBIs. Junior Alexis Gonzalez (Hauppauge, N.Y.) added another two-run homer in the bottom of the third, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 advantage. In the bottom of the fourth, Swantek blasted a solo shot to right center, giving LIU Post a 4-1 lead. Sophomore Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) earned her second win of the season with seven strong innings.
