Softball Splits With St. Thomas Aquinas

Box Score 2 SPARKILL, N.Y. (April 15, 2013) – The LIU Post softball team split a doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Monday afternoon, winning the first game 7-4 but dropping the nightcap 5-0.
With the split, the Pioneers stand at 29-10 overall and 14-2 in conference action, while the Spartans go to 5-21 overall and 2-16 in ECC play.
The Pioneers pounded out 13 hits in the first game to back
Liz Weber's (Brightwaters, N.Y.) effort in the circle, as the junior tossed a complete game and scattered four runs on six hits, walking one and striking out eight.
The Pioneers scored three in the third, one in the fourth, and three more in the sixth to give Weber more than enough run support.
Freshman
Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) led the Pioneers offensively, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. Juniors

Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) and freshman
Kelsey McLaughlin (Lido Beach, N.Y.) each had two hits in the game.
In game two, STAC's Megan Sweezy twirled a shutout to snap the Pioneers' 13 game winning streak as the Spartans earned the 5-0 victory. It marked only the third time all year that LIU Post has been shut out.
The Pioneers continue today as they head to Mercy looking for a sweep of the Mavericks, starting at 3 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
