(April 20, 2013) – The Pioneers combined for 20 hits in their doubleheader sweep at the University of Bridgeport. In the opener, the Purple Knights struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a two-out homer. The Pioneers answered with a 10 spot in the fourth to take a lead they would never relinquish. Junior Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) blasted a two-run homer to left-center, scoring Alexis Gonzalez (Hauppauge, N.Y.). Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) singled home Aly Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) to make it 3-1. With the Pioneers up 5-1, pitcher Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) smashed a two-run shot of her own, giving LIU Post a 7-1 lead. Still in the fourth, Dzierzynski delivered a three-run double to left-center, capping the scoring for the inning. Dzierzynski added a solo homer in the sixth to put the Pioneers up 11-6 as LIU Post would take the first game, 11-8. Quincy Lewis (Corning, N.Y.) earned her sixth win of the season going 3.2 innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out one. In the second game, Bridgeport got on the board first in the second inning, but the Pioneers scored four unanswered runs to complete the sweep. Swantek homered in the fifth to put the Pioneers on the board. Later in the inning, Catherine Havens (Eastport, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Carly Chamberlain (Nesco, N.J.) to come home with the go-ahead run. With the Pioneers up 3-1 in the sixth, Kelsey McLaughlin (Lido Beach, N.Y.) singled to center field to plate Jessica Julich (Kings Park, N.Y.) with the Pioneers' final run.
