Softball Sweeps Twin Bill From Queens

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 9, 2013)
– The Pioneers swept a twin bill against the visiting Knights of Queens College in an ECC matchup. LIU Post tallied nine hits en route to an 8-0 win in game one and 12 more to take game two, 8-0.
 
In the first game, LIU Post's offense came alive in the fifth inning, scoring all eight runs in an 8-0 win.
 
With the Pioneers already up 4-0, sophomore catcher Aly Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) cleared the bases with a three-run double to deep right-center field. Freshman Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) followed with a double of her own, plating Dzierzynski to give the Pioneers the 8-0 win.
 
Junior Liz Weber (Brightwaters, N.Y.) picked up her 12th win of the season, allowing just one hit and striking out eight, including seven of the first nine batters she faced.
 
In game two, freshman Kelsey McLaughlin (Lido Beach, N.Y.) led the offense with three hits, while Swantek added her second homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the third.
 
Junior Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) put the Pioneers on the board in the bottom of the first with a three-run double to right field.
 
Sophomore Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) improved to 7-1 on the season, allowing two hits and striking out five.
 
Next up for the Pioneers is a doubleheader against ECC rival NYIT on April 11.
