Women's Soccer Drops Tough 1-0 Decision at No. 20 Dowling

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2013) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post women's soccer team kicked off its 2013 East Coast Conference slate with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to 20th-ranked Dowling at Golden Lions Field in Brookhaven, N.Y. The defeat sends the Pioneers to 2-2 overall, and 0-1 in league action.
Dowling (4-0-1) scored on its first of seven shots on the afternoon, and never looked back from there. In the 16th minute, freshman forward Taylor Davide (West Babylon, N.Y.) headed a Nicole Nulty (Seaford, N.Y.) cross-pass into the top-right corner netting for the contest's lone goal.
Senior forward
Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) looked for a quick response, but her attempt was stopped by DC's Melissa Guglielmo (West Babylon, N.Y.). Guglielmo knocked aside all five LIU Post shots on net she faced in 90 minutes between the pipes. Sophomore
Katelyn Phillips (Littleton, Colo.) made three saves for the Pioneers.
Overall, the green and gold owned a 9-7 edge in the shot department. Both squads earned two corner kicks apiece.

Mark Dawson's Pioneers return to action Monday (Sept. 23) in a 3:30 p.m. tilt at Caldwell. The match is a make-up of a previously postponed game on Sept. 12.
