BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2013) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post women's soccer team began a four-game homestand with a 2-0 shutout of Philadelphia in non-conference action at Robert Blitz Field in Brookville, N.Y. Sophomore forward Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) and freshman forward/midfielder Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) each provided a late first-half goal in the win.

Though the opening 35 minutes were uneventful, the final 10 of the first half, however, proved otherwise. With 8:12 left, Vistnes put the Pioneers (4-2) on the board. On the play, a long ball from senior back Karina Rizzo (Oceanside, N.Y.) set up a two-on-none for the green and gold. Vistnes subsequently fired a shot into the short side, making it a 1-0 game.

Under three minutes later, the hosts pushed the lead to 2-0, via a corner kick. Backman headed a Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) ball past Rams' sophomore keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa.) for the tally. Despite giving up the two goals, Shaw totaled four saves in the contest.

During the latter 45-minute session, Philadelphia (0-4) mustered six shots (two SOG), but never got an attempt by sophomore netminder Katelyn Phillips (Littleton, Colo.). Phillips turned aside both shots on goal that she faced, including an Angela Ferro (Shelton, Conn.) try from point-blank range in the 62nd minute.

For the game, LIU Post owned a 10-6 advantage in shots. Vistnes led all players with five of them.

Head Coach Mark Dawson's Pioneers are back at it Saturday (Sept. 28) versus next-door neighbor NYIT in Brookville, N.Y. The opening kick is slated for noon.
