ResultsBROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2014) - In its first meet of the 2014-15 season on Friday, the LIU Post women's swimming team edged Bridgeport, 117-82, at the Pratt Natatorium. The Pioneers grabbed seven event wins and posted an NCAA provisional time in the 200-yard medley relay, while
Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) and
Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) seized NCAA "B" cut times in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly, respectively.
The green and gold snagged an early lead over the Purple Knights after
Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.21. Coming in shortly behind the junior was
Laura Bendfelt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), who tapped the pad third at 24.63.
In the 200-free, Bridgeport's Alja Tavcar completed the race first at 1:57.38, but finishing behind her was junior
Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) at 2:00.31. LIU Post's
Poppy Hill (London, England) clocked a time of 5:32.58 in the 500-free, whereas teammate
Jackie Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta), who placed second (11:34.62) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, followed at 5:40.21.
The Pioneers would clinch first-place finishes in the remaining events. Pettersson's 100-yard backstroke (57.20) earned her an NCAA "B" qualifying time, while Brazier completed shortly behind, touching the wall at 57.95. In the 100-yard breaststoke, the green and gold raced to a one-two finish after
Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany) and
Erika Hultman (Bara, Sweden) finished at 1:07.73 and 1:09.35, respectively.
The 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley also saw LIU Post consecutive top finishes. Kwok achieved an NCAA "B" qualifying time (56.16) and
Seren Jones (Cardiff, Whales, United Kingdom) swam to a 59.69 in the butterfly. Pettersson and freshman
Cristina Garcia Mauri (Malaga, Spain) tapped the pad at 2:08.78 and 2:12.40, respectively, in the 200 IM.
The Pioneers' 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay teams came in first as well. Bendfelt,
Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), Kwok and Brazier raced to a 1:37.04 in the 200 free relay, while Pettersson, Hultman, Kwok and Brazier clocked a 1:46.38 and an NCAA provisional qualification in the 200 medley relay.

Maureen Travers and her LIU Post squad are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 25) in New Britain, Conn., where they are set to face Central Connecticut State at 5 p.m.
