BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2014) - In its first meet of the 2014-15 season on Friday, the LIU Post women's swimming team edged Bridgeport, 117-82, at the Pratt Natatorium. The Pioneers grabbed seven event wins and posted an NCAA provisional time in the 200-yard medley relay, while Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) and Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) seized NCAA "B" cut times in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly, respectively.

The green and gold snagged an early lead over the Purple Knights after Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.21. Coming in shortly behind the junior was Laura Bendfelt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), who tapped the pad third at 24.63.

In the 200-free, Bridgeport's Alja Tavcar completed the race first at 1:57.38, but finishing behind her was junior Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) at 2:00.31. LIU Post's Poppy Hill (London, England) clocked a time of 5:32.58 in the 500-free, whereas teammate Jackie Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta), who placed second (11:34.62) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, followed at 5:40.21.

The Pioneers would clinch first-place finishes in the remaining events. Pettersson's 100-yard backstroke (57.20) earned her an NCAA "B" qualifying time, while Brazier completed shortly behind, touching the wall at 57.95. In the 100-yard breaststoke, the green and gold raced to a one-two finish after Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany) and Erika Hultman (Bara, Sweden) finished at 1:07.73 and 1:09.35, respectively.

The 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley also saw LIU Post consecutive top finishes. Kwok achieved an NCAA "B" qualifying time (56.16) and Seren Jones (Cardiff, Whales, United Kingdom) swam to a 59.69 in the butterfly. Pettersson and freshman Cristina Garcia Mauri (Malaga, Spain) tapped the pad at 2:08.78 and 2:12.40, respectively, in the 200 IM.

The Pioneers' 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay teams came in first as well. Bendfelt, Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), Kwok and Brazier raced to a 1:37.04 in the 200 free relay, while Pettersson, Hultman, Kwok and Brazier clocked a 1:46.38 and an NCAA provisional qualification in the 200 medley relay.
