Volleyball vs. Southern Connecticut State - 7 p.m.
The LIU Post volleyball team will look to rebound from a five-set heartbreaker when they round out the non-conference portion of their 2014 schedule tonight against Southern Connecticut State at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers (15-12) dropped their most recent match to Bridgeport on Tuesday (Oct. 28), as the two teams played the maximum five sets. Freshman outside hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) connected on 12 kills and junior middle hitter Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied nine kills on a .350 hitting percentage. Junior setter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) had eight kills and dished out a team-high 31 assists, while sophomore right-side hitter Analise Austin (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the team with 13 digs.
The Owls come to Brookville tonight with a 7-17 overall record on the 2014 campaign. The team won their last match, a five-set thriller over AIC on Tuesday (Oct. 28). Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Hauser (Stevens Point, Wis.) punished the Yellow Jackets with a 25-kill performance in the victory. She added a team-high 17 digs and junior libero Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) accumulated 15 digs of her own. Setters Taylor Carlson (Centennial, Colo.) and Alexandra Nimz (Littleton, Colo.) each posted 21 assists to pace the Owls.
The two teams last met on Sept. 17 of last year, as LIU Post defeated Southern Connecticut in four sets. The Pioneers lead the all-time series over the Owls, winning 23 of the 24 meetings to-date.
