Women's Swimming Upends East Stroudsburg, 125-102

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 1, 2014) - Highlighted by a Meghan Brazier (W. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) NCAA "B" standard qualifying cut time in the 100-yard freestyle and a broken pool record in the 400-yard medley relay, the LIU Post women's swimming team defeated East Stroudsburg, 125-102, on Saturday at the Pratt Natatorium. 

The Pioneers (2-1) got off to a fast start, shattering a pool record in their first event, the 400-yard medley relay. Seniors Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) and Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany), junior Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Brazier placed first in the event with a 3:55.17, breaking the existing 3:56.00 record set on Feb. 1, 2013 against Sacred Heart. 

The 200-yard freestyle saw a one-two finish by LIU Post. Senior Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.) and junior Kat Kazaba (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) tapped the pad at 2:03.61 and 2:05.36, respectively. In the 100-yard backstroke, Brazier finished first with a 57.99 clocking. Kwok swam just behind at 58.03 and junior Seren Jones (Cardiff, Whales, United Kingdom) was third at 59.10. 

Rademacher earned an event win in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing at 1:07.43, while freshman Erika Hultman (Bara, Sweden) placed second at 1:10.78.

In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Cristina Garcia Mauri (Malaga, Spain) collected an event win of her own, completing the heat at 2:15.90. Freshman Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), Pettersson and junior Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) individually clocked first- (24.78), second- (25.20) and third-place (25.41) times in the 50-yard freestyle.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Brazier raced to a 52.53 and a NCAA "B" qualifying cut time. The junior was followed by Bendfeldt and Delehanty at 54.39 and 56.87, respectively. The 200-yard backstroke showcased another Pioneer Top-3 showing, as Pettersson, Garcia Mauri and Kwok placed first, second and third. Rademacher and Hultman completed the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:22.38 and 2:32.74 to secure the first- and second-place event finishes. 

Head Coach Maureen Travers and the Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Nov. 8), when they host Kutztown at the Pratt Natatorium at 1 p.m.
