Women's Swimming Stands Sixth After Day Two Finals at Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 22, 2014) - After Day Two finals at Rutgers' Frank Elm Invitational, the LIU Post swim team amassed 585 points, good to place sixth, heading into the last day of competition. 

In the second event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay, the Pioneer "A" and "B" relay squads both raced to NCAA provisional qualifying cut times, at 1:43.69 and 1:46.22, respectively. The 400-yard individual medley saw two NCAA "B" qualifying cut times from Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany) and Cristina Garcia Mauri (Malaga, Spain), who finished the race at 4:22.63 and 4:32.00, while Kirsty Elliott (Edinburgh, Scotland) and Jackie Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) completed the same feat at 4:47.24 and 4:49.98. 

The 100-yard butterfly was highlighted by an event win and a NCAA "A" qualifying cut time from junior Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.), who touched the pad at 54.18. Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) posted a NCAA "B" cut time in the event, finishing at 57.37. Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany) and Seren Jones (Cardiff, Whales) capped-off the green and gold 100-butterfly effort at 56.87 and 57.63, respectively.

Kat Kazaba (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) swam to a 1:57.76 in the 200-yard freestyle, while Erika Hultman (Bara, Sweden) completed the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:06.94. 

The 100-yard backstroke saw a LIU Post third, fourth and fifth place finish as Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden), Jones and Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Colombia) touched the pad at 55.59, 56.36 and 56.86, respectively. All three times were good for NCAA "B" qualifying cuts. The last event of the day marked a Pioneer, 800-yard freestyle relay, 7:56.34 finish.  

Head Coach Maureen Travers and the green and gold are back in action Sunday, November 22, when they are set to swim in the last day of competition in the Frak Elm Invite.
