Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 13, 2014) - In the first re-match of last year's East Coast Conference final, the LIU Post women's basketball team fell to UDC, 80-68, on Saturday in the nation's capital.

The Pioneers (5-3, 2-1 ECC) shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the floor in the contest, while the Firebirds (7-2, 1-1 ECC) shot 44.4 (24-of-54), including a 58.6 percent clip in the opening stanza.

During the first half, the two teams played a close affair, until UDC built a six-point lead on a Telisha Turner trey at the 7:50 mark. Two subsequent free throws by senior guard Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) sliced the deficit to 31-27, before the Firebirds netted back-to-back lay-ups to widen their advantage to eight (35-27) at the 4:15 mark.

In the dwindling minutes of the period, junior guard Khea Gibbs (Norwalk, Conn.) hit a pair from the free-throw line to bring the Pioneers within six (40-34), but Turner buried a three with seven seconds left to give the Firebirds a 43-34 edge at the break. Williams led the way for the green and gold in the first half with 15 points. Junior center Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.) chipped in seven points and seven rebounds.

In the latter stanza, UDC ran away by scoring the half's first 12 points just over two minutes into the action. LIU Post eventually closed the gap to a 13-point margin (58-45), following a 7-0 spurt. Senior guard Ashley Castle (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had four points in the run. Williams knocked down a three-pointer to cap it off.

The Pioneers only came as close as seven points (75-68) the rest of the way in the losing effort. Williams finished with a team-high 24 points. Davis scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her second-straight double-double.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action next Saturday (Dec. 20), when they travel to the Sunshine State to face Eckerd in St. Petersburg, Fla. The opening tip is slated for 3 p.m.
