Steven Laurino (Boise, Idaho) has been tabbed as one of nine national finalists for the Harlon Hill Award, symbolic of being the top collegiate football player in NCAA Division II.
The 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Most Valuable Player, Laurino, an All-NE-10 first-team selection, ranks second in the nation in points responsible for (294.0) and third in total offense (347.8). This year, he completed 317-of-530 passes for 3,565 yards and 29 touchdowns, both of which were career-highs. The Boise native also dialed his own number for 609 yards on the ground, and the seventh-most rushing touchdowns (19) in Division II.
Laurino currently holds the school records for career passing yards (9,537), total offense (11,713), completions (845) and passing touchdowns (84). In 2014, he cracked the NCAA's Top-25 all-time leaderboard for most yards of total offense in a season.
The finalists were chosen by NCAA Division II sports information directors in regional voting, and will now be placed on the national ballot, where all 168 of the division's athletic media representatives will select the 29th award winner.
The entire list of finalists is comprised of seven quarterbacks and two running backs.
Following the conclusion of the national voting on Dec. 13, the winner of the 2014 Harlon Hill Award will be announced via webcast on Friday, Dec. 19.
Laurino helped the Pioneers to an 8-4 finish in 2014, along with their first outright Northeast-10 Conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance in nearly a decade.
