ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Dec. 20, 2014) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's basketball team fell to Eckerd, 79-49, in a non-conference tilt in St. Petersburg.

The Pioneers (5-4) struggled from the field, shooting 26.3 percent (13-of-57) for the game. Eckerd (8-2) shot 56.9 percent (29-of-51) from the floor, including a 44.4 percent clip (8-of-18) from three-point land.

Eckerd scored the game's first six points and built an 11-point advantage (20-9) with just over 11 minutes to go in the opening half.

Then, with LIU Post trailing 24-11 with just over eight minutes to go, junior center Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.) converted a lay-up before red-shirt freshman Jasmine Bailey (Washington, D.C.) hit a jumper to bring the Pioneers within nine (24-15). That would be the closest the green and gold would get, however, as Eckerd went on a 15-7 spurt to close out the first half with a 39-22 lead.

Eckerd was able to turn 16 LIU Post turnovers into 22 points, while the Pioneers were able to hold a 7-3 edge in second-chance points.

The hosts kicked off the latter stanza on a 13-0 run to open a 52-22 lead. The spurt lasted over four minutes before the Pioneers got on the board in the second half. Eckerd would go on to lead by as many as 33 (62-29) midway through the second half and cruised to the 79-49 win.

Davis led all players with 19 points and seven rebounds. The junior was 7-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31), when they host Stonehill in a non-conference tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m.
