OAKDALE, N.Y. (Dec. 6, 2014) - Junior center/forward Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.) put forth a double-double effort Saturday, scoring a game- and career-high 23 points, to send the LIU Post women's basketball team to an 80-71 victory over East Coast Conference rival Dowling at Dowling Gymnasium.

She also pulled down 12 rebounds, while shooting 9-of-16 from the floor. Senior guard Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) totaled 17 points, five rebounds and three assists. In 19 minutes off the bench, red-shirt freshman forward Jasmine Bailey (Washington, D.C.) had 11 points and seven boards.

Following a back-and-forth opening half that featured four lead changes and one tied score, the green and gold carried a slight 37-34 edge into the break.

In the second half, LIU Post (5-2, 2-0 ECC), which shot 29-of-64 (45.3 percent) from the field in the contest, remained ahead by one possession (37-36), until an early 8-0 run extended its advantage to 45-36 with 16:24 remaining. Davis, Bailey and Williams all contributed a jumper in the spurt.

The Golden Lions (0-6, 0-1 ECC) fought back, however, and eventually closed the gap to 58-54 on a three-ball by Kristina Surlan (Novi Grad, Bosnia) at the 7:03 mark.

Yet, the Pioneers answered with a game-clinching 13-2 burst, building their lead up to as many as 15 points (71-56) with 2:48 to go. Davis and Bailey combined to score 11 of the 13 points in the streak.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad return to action next Saturday (Dec. 13), when they continue their six-game road trip in the nation's capital at ECC foe UDC. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
