Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) was selected Thursday to the 2013-14 Daktronics Women's Basketball All-East Region first-team. The award comes after she was named the East Coast Conference's Player of the Year.
Williams was a standout for the Pioneers (22-6, 18-2 ECC), leading them to the first East Coast Conference regular-season championship in program history and the team's fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The second-leading scorer in the ECC, Williams poured in 19.2 points per game in the regular season, topping the 20-point mark on 12 different occasions. She also led the league with 186 foul shots made and an .856 free-throw percentage. Earlier this postseason, Williams was named to the All-ECC first-team, as well as the All-Tournament squad for her play during the ECC Championship.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II East Region schools and conferences selected the two Daktronics All-Region teams. The process concludes with All-America selections announced later in the month.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
Williams and the third-seeded Pioneers take on sixth-seeded Assumption in an NCAA Division II East Region Tournament quarterfinal match-up in Waltham, Mass. on Friday (Mar. 14). The opening tip is scheduled for noon.
