Women's Basketball Brings in Beene For 2014-15 Campaign
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2014) - On Monday, LIU Post Head Women's Basketball Coach
Deirdre Moore announced the signing of forward
Alexis Beene (New Haven, Conn.) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2014-15 season.
Beene, a two-time All-Conference selection, finished her career with 826 points, 921 rebounds and 285 blocks for the Lady Academics at James Hillhouse High School.
Dubbed one of Connecticut's Top-25 Players to Watch in 2012-13, she led her team to a Class L State Championship two years earlier. Then, in her senior campaign, Beene averaged impressive totals of 12.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game.
"We are excited to have Alexis join out women's basketball program," Moore said. "She is a tremendous student as well as an athlete. Alexis is a strong, explosive lefty power forward who can also play the center position. She plays on both sides of the ball – scoring, rebounding and blocking shots. She has a good repertoire of back to the basket moves and we are looking forward to her being able to play right away."
The Pioneers wrapped up a program-setting 2013-14 campaign, falling in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship final to top-ranked and eventual national champion Bentley. The green and gold finished with a 24-7 overall record, the second-most single-season wins in program history.
