LIU Post Captures Second-Straight ECC Commissioner's Cup
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (May 15, 2014) - On Monday, the LIU Post Department of Athletics won its second-straight East Coast Conference Commissioner's Cup at the ECC Awards Banquet in Bridgeport, Conn. It is also the fourth time the Pioneers have received the honor in the last eight years.
The ECC Commissioner's Cup is emblematic of the league's top program across its 17 championship sports. Under the guidance of Director of Athletics and Recreation
Bryan Collins (Sayville, N.Y.), LIU Post has re-claimed the award for the fifth time since it was established in 1994.
The Pioneers led the race by a comfortable margin, amassing 92 points to second-place Roberts Wesleyan's 81.5. Molloy came in at a close third with 80 points. Dowling (74.5) and Queens (73.5), separated by only one point, rounded out the Top-5.
LIU Post raised the East Coast Conference Championship title in five of its sponsored sports. Those programs were men's cross country, women's cross country, men's soccer, men's lacrosse and softball. The women's basketball and women's lacrosse squads earned the ECC regular-season crown, but lost in their respective tournament championship contests.
The Pioneers' women's tennis, women's soccer, volleyball and men's basketball teams all made appearances in the East Coast Conference Tournament, whereas the baseball program finished fifth in the league standings.
