Softball Dips to 20th in Final 2014 Regular Season NFCA Div. II Poll
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 7, 2014) - The LIU Post softball team has dropped three spots to 20th in the final NFCA Division II Poll of the regular season, as released on Wednesday.
Despite a 5-3 loss to nationally-ranked Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship that ended its program-record 24-game winning streak, West Texas A&M (51-5) easily maintained its position at No. 1 in the tally.
The Pioneers are coming off a sweep of Molloy in the East Coast Conference Championship on Sunday (May 4) that saw the green and gold outscore their opponents by a 60-28 margin. LIU Post beat the Lions by the counts of 17-7 and 16-7 to take home the crown.
LIU Post will head to New Haven, Conn. this weekend (May 9-11) to begin play at the 2014 NCAA Division II Softball Championship against the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Champion, Wilmington (Del.).
This marks the 13th-consecutive season that LIU Post has reached the NCAA Tournament. It is also the 15th time in the last 16 years that the Pioneers have made an appearance in the East Regional.
The Pioneers will play the first game of the double-elimination tournament against No. 8 seed Wilmington on May 9 at 1 p.m. The winner of that contest will face either fourth-seeded New Haven or fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire in the winner's bracket. The squad that wins the four-team sub-regional will advance to the East Super Regional the following weekend.
