Fatchikova Earns ECC Player of the Week Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2014) - On Monday, LIU Post women's tennis junior
Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) was selected as the East Coast Conference Player of the Week after an undefeated mark at No. 1 singles. With Fatchikova's help, the Pioneer squad opened the 2014 campaign with an unblemished 2-0 record.
On Friday, Fatchikova beat Roberts Wesleyan's Fatima Ouattara (New York, N.Y.) at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Then, in her doubles flight, Fatchikova and
Lucie Charastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) defeated the Redhawk pair by an 8-4 final.
Against Daemen on Saturday, Fatchikova once again dominated the No. 1 singles slot, beating her opponent Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind.), 6-0, 6-2. In doubles competition, the Pioneer pair made quick work of the Wildcats' No. 1 doubles tandem with an 8-0 shutout.
The two wins propelled the LIU Post women's tennis squad into a tie for second in the conference standings.
Fatchikova and the Pioneers are back in action Thursday (Sept. 11) against Holy Family in Philadelphia, Pa. First sevre is set for 3:30 p.m.
