DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2015) - The LIU Post volleyball team opened a three-match road trip Thursday night with a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-21, 25-17) of Mercy College in an East Coast Conference tilt at Mercy Gymnasium.

The Pioneers (17-5, 5-2 ECC) commanded the opening set, hitting at a stellar .583 clip to cruise to a 25-11 win. LIU Post built as much as a 15-point cushion (23-8) in the game.

Senior setter/right-side hitter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) paced the green and gold with seven kills in the first set. Senior middle hitter Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added three kills and two blocks.

In the second set, the Pioneers held a 13-8 lead early on. However, the Mavericks (5-17, 1-6 ECC) rallied with five straight points to even the game. Senior middle blocker Abigail Foti (Bedford, N.H.) served a pair of aces in that stretch, while junior outside hitter Andrea Velasco (Whittier, Calif.) notched back-to-back kills.

Later in the set, the two squads remained tied (19-19), until a 5-1 spurt by the visitors put the Pioneers in front for good. Freshman middle/right-side hitter Elise Strange (Chesapeake, Va.) provided two kills to lead the effort.

In the third set, LIU Post again held an early edge, but Mercy battled back. The Pioneers eventually came away with the three-set win though, as they scored seven unanswered points to close out the contest.

Holding a slight 18-17 advantage, the green and gold, behind four kills from junior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.), went on to earn a 25-17 victory to secure the sweep.

Eight different players tallied kills on the evening for LIU Post. McCullouch, who also rejected four blocks, and Amador had nine kills apiece. Valenza amassed nine digs, six kills and three blocks. Londot and Hansen both collected five kills. Londot chipped in seven digs, two aces and two blocks, as well. Freshman setter Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy) recorded 33 assists and 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.

Head Coach Shellane Ogoshi and the Pioneers return to action Saturday (Oct. 17), when they square off with Queens College in an ECC showdown in Flushing. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
