BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2015) - On Thursday evening, the LIU Post volleyball team swept East Coast Conference opponent Molloy College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-10), on "Dig Purple" Night at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.), freshman outside hitter Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) and freshman middle/right-side hitter Elise Strange (Chesapeake, Va.) paved the way for the Pioneers (18-7, 6-4 ECC) with nine kills apiece. Valenza also collected 11 digs, two blocks and two aces, while Londot recorded eight digs and one service ace.

Leading 16-15 in a tightly-contested first set, LIU Post rolled off a quick 6-2 spurt, led by three Londot kills, to widen the gap to 22-17. The green and gold eventually won the set by a 25-20 count on a kill by senior setter/right-side hitter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas).

The second set, much like the first, was a see-saw affair, until the Pioneers pulled away late. Tied at 21-all, a pair of unforced errors by the Lions (4-18, 2-8 ECC), coupled with a Londot ace and Valenza kill, secured a 25-22 victory. In all, the opening two sets featured 17 tied scores and seven lead changes.

In the third set, LIU Post took a commanding lead and never looked back. The Pioneers bolted out to an 11-point advantage (18-7), behind two kills from Strange and a pair of blocks by junior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.). Additionally, Valenza provided three kills in the effort.

The hosts then closed out the match from the service line, as senior libero Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii), who registered a match-high 12 digs, served three straight aces to top off the 25-10 win.

Head Coach Shellane Ogoshi and her LIU Post squad return to action Tuesday (Oct. 27) in Bridgeport, Conn. for a 7 p.m. contest at ECC rival University of Bridgeport.
