ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2015) - In the first of back-to-back matches over the weekend, the LIU Post volleyball team overwhelmed Roberts Wesleyan College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-13), in East Coast Conference action Saturday at the Voller Athletic Center.
The Pioneers (19-8, 7-5 ECC) hit at a .304 clip for the match, while holding the Redhawks (2-21, 2-12 ECC) to a minuscule .035 attack percentage.
Freshman outside hitter
Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) earned her 12th double-double of the year (first since Oct. 17) with 12 kills and 14 digs, in addition to boasting a .500 hitting percentage. Senior setter/right-side hitter
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) amassed 11 kills, three service aces and two blocks. Sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter
Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) chipped in seven kills, six digs and two blocks.
Tied 6-6 in the first set, LIU Post went on an 11-4 run to grab a 17-10 lead. Valenza notched two kills in the spurt. Amador and freshman setter
Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy), who allocated a match-high 29 assists, each served an ace.
Later in the game, the Pioneers still owned a seven-point cushion (20-13), until they pulled away with five straight points, capped by a Valenza and
Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) block, to take the set by a 25-13 count.
The green and gold led from the start in the second set and never looked back. Holding a slight 11-8 edge, LIU Post rolled off an 8-2 burst to widen its lead to 19-10, forcing a Roberts Wesleyan timeout.
Londot had three kills in the run, while Genna and freshman setter/right-side hitter
Fiona Marziello (Haddonfield, N.J.) both served aces. The Pioneers eventually won the game 25-12 on an ace from senior libero
Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii).
Up 9-8 in the third set, LIU Post scored five of the next six points, making it a 14-9 game. Amador and Valenza combined for three kills in that stretch.
Shortly thereafter, the Pioneers closed out the match with a 9-1 run to earn a 25-13 victory. Londot slammed down three kills in the burst, including the clincher. Amador contributed two more service aces in the effort.
