Indoor Track and Field Competes at Molloy Invitational

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (Feb. 14, 2015) - Highlighted by a Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) event win, Talya Williams' (Schenectady, N.Y.) high finishes and an Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) record-breaking performance, the LIU Post men's and women's indoor track and field teams raced at the Molloy Indoor Invitational on Friday evening.

Scott earned the top slot of the one mile run, crossing the finish line at 4:26.72. Thomas Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.) completed the feat at 4:39.26, good for sixth place, and Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) clocked-in at 5:12.80. The 60-meter dash saw Bjorn Bjornsson (Levittown, N.Y.) finish at 7.28, while Dale McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) completed the 400-meter run at 51.78. Mcdonald also raced to a 23.35 in the 200-meter dash, good for a 12th-place finish, and Bjornsson leapt to a ninth-place showing (6.25 meters) in the men's long jump.

The men's 800-meter run saw another Scott high finish, as he placed seventh with a time of 2:00.76. Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) completed the event shortly behind at 2:06.21, while Flynn, Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) finished at 2:07.81, 2:09.95 and 2:10.49, respectively. The 5000-meter run saw a Pioneer consecutive finish, as McGarvey, Gioe and Arnone raced to a 16:42.98, 16:49.11 and 16:55.11, respectively.

For the women, Williams earned a second-place finish in the one mile run, crossing the finish line at 5:17.78. Robin Lynn (Glen Gardner, N.J.) placed fifth in the feat, with a 5:35.60 finish, and Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) raced to a 6:07.30 completion. The 800-meter run saw another Williams high finish, as she placed fifth with a time of 2:27.24. Lynn, Stirling and Lauren Hoffman (Melville, N.Y.) finished the event consecutively, placing 15th, 16th and 17th, clocking in at 2:31.78, 2:32.44 and 2:32.75, respectively. The 5,000-meter run saw Stirling place third, at 18:29.43, smashing the indoor Pioneer record, set in 1999, by nearly 10 seconds, while Hoffman placed sixth, crossing the finish line at 19:11.39. Danae Glover (North Babylon, N.Y.) earned a fourth-place finish in the women's triple jump, leaping to an 11.15.

Head Coach Pat Slevin and the LIU Post men's and women's track teams are set to compete in the East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 21, at St. Anthony's High School.
