Women's Swimming Commands Day One of Met Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 20, 2015) - Highlighted by three first-place finishes and nine NCAA qualifying times, the LIU Post women's swimming team competed in five events in Day One of competition at the 2015 Metropolitan Conference Championships, hosted by Rutgers University on Friday.
The Pioneers secured a top finish in the 200 freestyle relay, as Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany), Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden), Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.) and Meghan Brazier (W. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) swam to a 1:34.58, which earned the squad a NCAA Provisional qualifier. In the 500 freestyle, Poppy Hill (London, England), Kat Kazaba (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) and Jacqueline Tonn (Edmonton, Alberta) finished at 5:27.99, 5:30.69 and 5:24.25, respectively.
The 200 individual medley saw the green and gold clinch the top four slots of the feat and NCAA "B" qualifying times, as Pettersson, Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany), Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Cristina Garcia Mauri (Malaga, Spain) finished consecutively. Pettersson touched the pad first at 2:02.55, while Rademacher, Kwok and Garcia Mauri followed closely behind at 2:02.59, 2:04.43 and 2:07.57. Erika Hultman (Bara, Sweden) and Kirsty Elliott (Edinburgh, Scotland) also competed in the event, as Hultman placed sixth at 2:20.45 and Elliott touched the pad at 2:15.56.
Brazier, Delehanty and Bendfeldt earned a three-four-five finish and NCAA "B" qualifying standards in the 50 freestyle, with final times of 23.73, 24.02 and 24.05, respectively. Seren Jones (Cardiff, Whales) completed the event eighth at 24.53 and Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) placed 10th at 24.56. The 400 medley relay saw another Pioneer event win, as Pettersson, Rademacher, Kwok and Brazier swam to a first-place, 3:43.04 completion, good for a NCAA Provisional qualifier.
