Women's Swimming Remains in First at Met Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 21, 2015) - Through two days of competition, the LIU Post women's swimming team has amassed 876 points and stands pat in the No. 1 slot at the Metropolitan Collegiate Championships, hosted by Rutgers University. The Pioneers' Day Two effort earned them nine NCAA qualifying times as well as a new team record in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The 200-yard medley relay saw the green and gold secure a first-place finish, as Seren Jones (Cardiff, Wales), Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany), Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) swam to an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:42.83. Rademacher and Cristina Garcia Mauri (Malaga, Spain) earned their own NCAA "B" qualifiers in the 400-yard individual medley. The pair finished one-two at 4:22.56 and 4:30.81, respectively.
Kwok earned an NCAA "A" qualifying standard in the 100-yard butterfly, racing to a first-place clocking of 53.96. Freshman Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany) went on to take second and an NCAA "B" qualifier in the event at 57.24, while junior Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) placed third at 57.64. The 200-yard freestyle saw Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), Poppy Hill (London, England) and Kat Kazaba (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) swim to individual finishes of 1:56.41, 1:58.87 and 1:59.25.
Erika Hultman (Bara, Sweden) came in third in the 100-yard breaststroke, after touching the pad at 1:06.44. The Pioneers' 800-yard freestyle relay squad recorded a second-place showing, in addition to an NCAA provisional qualifying time and a new program mark. Bendfeldt, Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden), Rademacher and Kwok swam to a 7:32.37 finish, breaking a record set in 2013 (7:34.21) at the Metropolitan Championships. Pettersson, Brazier and Jones took the top three slots in the 100-yard backstroke, as well as three NCAA "B" qualifiers, as they raced to 54.73, 56.06 and 56.28, respectively.
LIU Post returns to the pool on Sunday (Feb. 22) for the final day of competition at the Metropolitan Conference Championships in Piscataway.
