BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2015) - Behind another double-double effort from junior center Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.), the LIU Post women's basketball team got back to its winning ways Wednesday with a 71-66 win over East Coast Conference foe Bridgeport at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville.

Davis went for 20 points and 16 rebounds to post her 10th double-double of the season. Senior guard Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) scored a game-high 25 points and added six assists, four rebounds and three steals.

The Pioneers (12-8, 8-4 ECC) and the Purple Knights (4-17, 2-11 ECC) played a tight first half until late in the opening session. Just before the horn sounded for halftime, red-shirt senior forward Jessica Little (Wyandanch, N.Y.) hit a deep three that seemed to bounce off every inch of the rim before falling. The trey gave the green and gold a 30-25 edge at the break. Davis led the way for LIU Post in the first half with nine points and nine boards. Williams contributed eight first-half points.

In the latter stanza, LIU Post would go up by as many as 13 when senior guard Ashley Castle (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a lay-up at the 10:01 mark to make it 51-38. Bridgeport fought back and got within three with under a minute left, but Williams nailed four clutch free throws down the stretch to put the game away.

Castle finished with nine points, while junior guard Quanisha Ratley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 10 points off the bench. LIU Post was able to get out and run against the Bridgeport defense, as the green and gold held an 18-8 edge in fast-break points.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 7), when they host ECC rival Dowling in the third game of a four-game homestand. The opening tip is slated for 1:30 p.m.
