Baseball vs. Nyack - 11 a.m.The LIU Post baseball team recorded its first win of the 2015 season on Tuesday. Now the Pioneers will look to obtain their first winning streak of the year when they face Nyack in the team's Florida finale.
LIU Post (1-4) defeated Bloomfield on Tuesday (Mar. 10) by a score of 6-4. The Pioneers managed to scrape all of their runs across in the seventh and eighth innings to record the victory. Graduate outfielder
Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) drove in the green and gold's first run with a triple in the seventh, and he scored on a single by graduate infielder
Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.). The Pioneers would put up four runs in the eighth on an RBI single by junior first baseman
David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.), a first-pitch RBI double by junior
Matt Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.) and a two-run single by Maccarone. Junior reliever
Dillon Burke (Plainview, N.Y.) earned the win by pitching four innings of one-hit ball in relief of sophomore starter
Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.). Jagiello went five innings, allowed three earned runs on five hits, and struck out seven batters.
Nyack (0-8) dropped an 11-8 decision to Stonehill on Monday (March 9) in a game played in Fort Worth, Fla. The Skyhawks scored five runs in the third inning and three in the seventh to avert a comeback by Nyack, which put up four runs in the sixth and three in the ninth in a last-ditch comeback effort. Senior shortstop Hilario Vidaurre (Arlington, Texas) and senior catcher Nick McConnell (Edison, N.J.) each had three hits for the Warriors in the loss. Before playing Stonehill, Nyack had lost three straight 1-0 games to Post and Merrimack, falling to the Chargers in a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 7).
No. 10 Softball at Florida Southern - 6 p.m.; 8 p.m.The LIU Post softball team was a 2014 participant in the NCAA Division II World Series, winning a program-record 50 games last spring. The Pioneers started last year in Florida, winning five of eight contests at the Rebel Spring Games in Winter Haven. This season, the Pioneers are back in the Sunshine State to begin their East Region title defense, and the green and gold will look to pick up their first two wins on the season when they face Florida Southern in a doubleheader tonight in Lakeland.
No. 10 LIU Post (0-2) dropped both contests in a doubleheader with Tampa on Tuesday (Mar. 10), with the Spartans coming out on top 1-0 in the first game and 3-1 in the latter affair. Game 1 was a showcase of dominance by Tampa starter Julia Marrow. The senior hurled a perfect game over seven innings, as the Spartans' lone run came across in the sixth inning on an RBI single. Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) was the hard-luck loser in the contest, pitching six innings of one-run ball, allowing eight hits and striking out five.
In Game 2, Marrow again shut down the Pioneers' offense, allowing one run on just two hits. Senior

Melissa Peet (Monroe, Conn.) had the offense for LIU Post in the contest. Peet doubled in the sixth and scored on a walk and wild pitch. Junior pitcher
Isabella Corrao (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tossed five innings, allowing two runs on four hits in taking the loss.
Florida Southern (11-14) has dropped its last 11 contests after starting the year strong by winning seven of its first nine contests. The Mocs dropped consecutive extra-inning games in a double-dip with Barry on Saturday (March 7), falling 6-5 in 11 innings and 3-2 in eight frames, respectively. In the doubleheader, senior outfielder Kylee Stearns (Lakeland, Fla.) had five hits and three runs batted in from the nine-hole in the batting order. Sophomore pitcher Brandi Jones (Snellville, Ga.) took the loss in both games in relief of starter Hannah Loyer (Bradenton, Fla.). Florida Southern has not won a game since Feb. 24, when the team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic in Game 1 of a doublehader.
