Box Score 2 SAINT LEO, Fla. (Mar. 13, 2015) - On Friday, LIU Post softball secured two wins against Dominican College at the Saint Leo March Invite at the University Softball Stadium. The green and gold came out on top 1-0 in the first game, and took the nightcap 8-4.
In Game One, the Pioneers (3-3) started with an early lead, as a
Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) single drove
Catherine Havens (Eastport, N.Y.) home to put the green and gold up by one. The single tally proved to be the only offense LIU Post needed - a strong denfensive effort and a combined pitching performance from
Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) and
Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) secured the 1-0 Pioneer victory.
Game Two boasted an eight-run Pioneer offensive showing in which the green and gold added at least one score in all but two innings. In the top of the first,
Melissa Peet (Monroe, Conn.) collected her third RBI in four games, as she singled through the right side to score
Aly Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) and put LIU Post up by one. The bottom of the third saw a Dominican (1-5) comeback as three Chargers crossed the plate to give them a 3-1 advantage. The Pioneers quickly answered back after a wild pitch and a pass ball scored
Mackenzie Buckley (St. James, N.Y.) and Dzierzynski, respectively, to tie the game at three. A groundout allowed for another Charger tally in the bottom of the fourth, but
Claire Travis (East Meadow, N.Y.) hustled across the plate on a pass ball to even the score at four. The green and gold took the lead indefinitely after a Swantek double in the sixth added a run and a Havens bases-clearing triple to left in the top of the seventh clinched the 8-4 Pioneer win.
Isabella Corrao (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Martin combined for three strikeouts.
