Outdoor Track Performs At USMMA Eight-Way Meet

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Apr. 13, 2015) - Highlighted by a total of eight first-place finishes, the LIU Post men's and women's outdoor track and field teams took part in Sunday's USMMA Eight-Way Meet in Kings Point. The men compiled a total of 62 points to place sixth, while the women's team notched 26 points to garner a seventh-place distinction.

Graduate sprinter Dale McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) won both the 200-meter (22.67) and the 400-meter (51.14) individual races, while red-shirt juniot Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) captured the 1500-meter event in a time of 4:20.75. The Pioneers held the top-three spots in the 1500, as red-shirt sophomore Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) and sophomore Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) finished directly behind Arnone with times of 4:24.21 and 4:24.54, respectively. The winning ways continued into the 5000-meter distance race, as freshman Thomas Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.) crossed the line first in a time of 16:23.07.

McDonald was part of a winning 4-by-100 relay squad, along with red-shirt freshman Ramel Joseph (Jamaica, N.Y.) and freshmen Kasim Thomas (Bronx, N.Y.) and Bjorn Bjornsson (Levittown, N.Y.). The green and gold relay completed the course in a time of 43.70, more than a full second head of the second place squad from Farmingdale State. Finally, Bjornsson earned second-place laurels in the long jump, scoring a distance of 6.24 meters.

The women's team was led by a first-place field finish from triple jump specialist Danae Glover (North Babylon, N.Y.). The freshman earned top honors in the event, racking up a distance of 10.48 meters. Junior Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) was victorious in the 5000-meter race (18:58.87) while freshman Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y.) captured third place in a time of 20:15.54. Fellow freshman Alyssa McDonald (New Rochelle, N.Y.) garnered a second-place result in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.24, 76.24 meters) and freshman Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) notched a second-place finish in the 1500-meter contest with a time of 4:59.51. Junior Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 1500, crossing the finish line in 5:33.15 and graduate runner Robin Lynn (Glen Gardner, N.J.) was third in the 800-meter race (2:23.25).

Head Coach Pat Slevin and the LIU Post men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will now travel up to Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday (Apr. 18) for the East Coast Conference Championships.
