BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (May 12, 2015) - On Tuesday, two members of the LIU Post baseball team were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-East Region teams.

Sophomore pitcher Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.), the 2015 East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year and All-ECC first-team honoree, earned NCBWA All-East Region first-team praise.

The sophomore was dominant on the hill for the green and gold this season. In 10 starts that spanned 71.0 innings pitched, he put together a 6-1 record to go along with a minuscule 0.76 earned run average. His ERA led the ECC and ranks third nationally in Division II, while his win total was good for fourth in the conference. DeCarli was even better in ECC play, finishing with an unblemished 4-0 mark and a 0.79 ERA during the regular season. On the year, he added 60 strikeouts and held hitters to a stingy .148 batting average against. DeCarli also ranks third in Division II with 4.44 hits allowed per nine innings and fourth with a 0.80 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched). In DeCarli's start in the 2015 ECC Baseball Championships, he threw a five-hit, complete-game shutout to advance the Pioneers to the winners bracket of the tournament.

Junior first baseman David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) was an honorable mention after having a breakout season in 2015. After playing in just 21 games and making 12 starts last season with a .200 batting average, Groeneveld erupted as one of the biggest threats in the lineup this year. He finished second on the team in hitting with a .291 average and colleceted 30 hits, including eight doubles and one home run. In addition, he scored 10 runs and driven in 10 more. His .393 on-base percentage was second on the team and his .421 slugging percentage is good enough for fourth on the squad. For his efforts during the Pioneers' final ECC series against Queens, Groeneveld was named the conference's player of the week. In four games, the first baseman hit .615, going 8-for-13 with two runs batted in and a run scored. He also collected 11 total bases and slugged at an .846 clip.

This marks the first time since 2012 that a Pioneer pitcher has been honored by the NCBWA. That season, junior Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) was honored by the association after going
7-4 with a 1.91 ERA through 14 appearances and 10 starts.  He totaled a team-high 85 innings, striking out 78 while batters hit just .196 against him.

In addition, this is the first time since 2010 that a Pioneer landed on the NCBWA All-East Region First Team. That season, freshman outfielder Zack Graczyk (Carmel, N.Y.) earned the same honor after leading the Pioneers with a .377 average, scoring 52 runs and driving in 31 while rapping 15 doubles, two triples and one homerun.  The freshman was a sparkplug at the top of the lineup, stealing 10 bases and was a defensive stalwart in center field, committing only two errors all year.  In addition, he posted a 1.50 ERA with a 3-2 record on the mound, earning three saves.

The green and gold concluded the 2015 campaign at 18-18 and qualified for their first ECC Baseball Championship since 2012. The Pioneers also captured their first ECC tournament win since winning the title in 2010.
