Women's Basketball Announces 2015-16 Recruiting Class

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 15, 2015) - On Friday, LIU Post Head Women's Basketball Coach Deirdre Moore announced her recruiting class for the 2015-16 season.

Moore has signed six players thus far, and plans on adding a few more pieces leading up to the beginning of the Fall '15 semester. The class includes three freshman and three transfer students.

Amber Jones, PG, Manhattan Center HS
Amber Jones was a team captain who finished her high school career with over 1,040 points, more than 360 rebounds and over 280 assists. She the Lady Rams in scoring and assists and was recognized by the Public School Athletic League on the All-Defensive Team, Daily News for Top-100 High School performers, NY Post Second-Team and PSAL Iron Man honors. She also finished sixth in her division in assists and seventh in scoring.

Moore on Jones: "Amber is a good basketball player and a good student.  She excels both on the court and in the classroom.  We are excited to have her join our team and program.  She is a versatile guard that can play all 3 guard positions.  She is a talented offensive player and a good defender.  We are looking forward to Amber contributing in a variety of ways. She is a hard worker and shows potential to do well."

Kristen Olsen, G, Curtis HS
Kristen Olsen played two seasons at St. Thomas Aquinas College and will be transferring to LIU Post in the fall. Due to East Coast Conference regulations, she will be sitting out the 2015-16 campaign after transferring within the ECC. During her time at STAC, she was an All-ECC honorable mention selection as a freshman. She won her teams' Rookie of the Year award, where she started 13 of 25 games, made 58 three-point shots, shot 37% from three, 39% from the floor and 81% from the free throw line.  She scored 311 points averaging 12.4 points per game in 30 mins. As a sophomore, she made 32 threes, scoring 155 points and shooting 31% from distance, 34% from the field and 78% from the line.

Moore on Olsen: "We are very excited to have Kristen on our team.  She is a proven shooter and scorer in  our conference and region. She can play multiple guard positions and provide leadership for younger guards. Kristen has a high basketball IQ and we are looking for her to be able to contribute right away."
 
Janaysia James, F, Perth Amboy HS
Janaysia James played two seasons at Dean College, where she was a two-year starter.James averaged 14.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. In her two seasons, she totaled 657 points, 446 rebounds and 114 steals. She is a two-time First Team All-Region XXI selection and a two-time New Hampshire Technical Institute Tournament Most Valuable Player. She helped lead the Bulldogs to back-to-back Region XXI championships

Moore on James: "Janaysia is an extremely competitive basketball player. She brings a high level of intensity and skills. She is quick and has the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Janaysia runs the floor well and is resilient on the glass. We are very happy to have her join our basketball family and we are looking for her to step in and contribute right away."
 
Naya Williams, PG, Master School HS
Naya Williams was a two-sport student-athlete at UVA-Wise, competing on the women's basketball team and women's lacrosse team. For the basketball team, she saw action in 30 games while making two starts. The freshman led the team in steals, coming away with 51, along with 41 assists while scoring 74 points.

Moore on Williams: "Naya comes to us from a good basketball family. She is a good student and excellent leader. Naya is a true blue point guard who plays tough on the ball defense the entire 94 feet. She is a play making point guard that has the ability to get into the lane and create scoring opportunities for herself and teammates. Naya has the skills and heart to step in right away and make an impact. We are very happy to have her join our team and represent our program."
 
Robyn Francis, G, Francis Lewis HS
Robyn Francis was a three-year team captain who averaged 10 points, six rebounds and four assists per game for the Patriots. She helped her team advance to the PSAL semi-finals as a senior and captured a championship as a junior. Francis the Patriots in many categories including rebounding, minutes played and assists.

Moore on Francis: "Robyn is a good student, basketball player and a proven winner. Her mentality and attitude towards hard work is impressive. She is a versatile player who contributes effectively both offensively and defensively. She can score in a variety of ways and can defend multiple positions. A student of the game, she shows potential to do very well and we are happy to have her join our basketball team."

Shannon Doyle, SG, Arlington HS
Shannon Doyle led the Admirals to a 15-5 record in her senior season. Averaged 13.4 points, six rebounds, three steals and 4.8 assists per game. She made 20 three-pointers as a senior and led the team in rebounds, steals and assists.

Moore on Doyle: "Shannon comes to us after completing a very good high school career. She is a good shooter that moves well without the ball. She is crafty and tough. Shannon plays hard every possession and plays on both sides of the ball. We are looking forward to having her out there in the green and gold joining our basketball family."
