BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 12, 2015) - Sophomore defender Grace Ilias (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) scored two goals Saturday, including the game-winner 2:14 into overtime, to send the No. 3 LIU Post field hockey team to a season-opening 3-2 win versus Bentley University in non-conference action at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Despite outshooting the Falcons (2-2) by a 10-1 count in the first half, the two squads went into halftime tied at 1-apiece.

Bentley tallied the game's opening goal on its only shot of the period. Senior midfielder Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine) fired a shot past the outstretched leg of LIU Post (1-0) junior goalie Savanah Cummings (Midlothian, Va.) in the fourth minute to stake the visitors to a one-goal cushion.

The Pioneers evened things up just before the break though. With 48 seconds remaining, Ilias found the inside of the right post, after a scramble in front of the cage. The goal was the second of her collegiate career.

In the second half, it didn't take long for LIU Post to grab the lead. Nearly five minutes in, senior forward Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) tapped in a rebound off a blocked shot from sophomore forward Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) to make it a 2-1 game.

Yet, the Falcons forced overtime, as freshman forward/midfielder Rachel Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) scored the equalizer in the 64th minute.

In the first sudden-death period, Ilias put back an Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) rebound two-plus minutes in to win it for the green and gold.

Overall, the Pioneers outshot their opposition, 18-3, and held an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Head Coach Raenee Savin and her LIU Post squad are right back at it Sunday (Sept. 13), when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College at 1 p.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
