Women's Tennis Falls to NYIT, 8-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2015) - On Friday, the LIU Post women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at the hands of East Coast Conference rival New York Institute of Technology at the LIU Post Tennis Courts.
Junior
Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) earned the Pioneers' (1-3, 1-2 ECC) lone victory of the day at No. 5 singles. Despite trailing 3-2 in the first set, Harwell won by retirement over NYIT's (3-0, 3-0 ECC) Gabriela Siembab (Chrzanow, Poland).
Seniors
Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and
Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) fell 8-4 at the first-doubles flight to Alessia Rossetti (Minusio, Switzerland) and Justyna Krol (Chorzow, Poland). Fatchikova also lost in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) to Rossetti in top singles.
In second singles, freshman
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) was saddled with her first loss of 2015, dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Melanie Benyadi (Saint Etienne, France). Chrastecka, like Arthur, lost by the same scoreline at No. 3 singles versus Paulina Velasquez (Queens, N.Y.).
In the final singles flight of the day, sophomore
Meagan Byrne (Deer Park, N.Y.) split the first two sets against Rosa LaCorte (Merrick, N.Y.), but fell short in the deciding third set, 10-6.

Walter Giacometti and his LIU Post squad are right back at it Saturday (Sept. 26), when they host Holy Family University in a non-conference match at noon in Brookville.
