ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2015) - Four different players tallied double-digit kills for the Pioneers Thursday night, as the LIU Post volleyball team defeated East Coast Conference opponent Molloy College, 3-1, at Quealy Gymnasium.
The win improved the green and gold to 9-3 overall and 2-0 versus ECC opposition. It also extended LIU Post's winning streak to four consecutive matches.
Despite hitting just .182 in the first set, the Pioneers took the opening game by a 25-21 scoreline. Though Molloy (2-12, 0-2 ECC) managed to grab an early 8-3 lead, LIU Post eventually tied the set at 17-all.
Shortly thereafter, the two squads remained even (21-21), until a kill by senior middle hitter
Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) put the visitors ahead for good. Following a Lions' timeout, the Pioneers scored three straight points, sparked by another Hansen kill, to close out the game.
Molloy then took the second set, before LIU Post hit at stellar .346 and .333 clips in the ensuing games to win the match.
In the third set, the Pioneers jumped out to a 9-3 advantage, behind three
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) kills, and never looked back. Junior middle hitter
Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) added three kills and four blocks to help propel the green and gold to a 25-14 victory.
Lastly, in the fourth set, LIU Post again got out to a quick start. The Pioneers went on an 8-2 run to start the game, led by two kills apiece from Hansen and Amador. They later built as much as an eight-point cushion (15-7), off a kill by
Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio), and went on to a 25-18 win.
Londot paced all Pioneer hitters with 14 kills. She contributed 17 digs, as well. Hansen had 12 kills off the bench. Amador and sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter
Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) each provided 10 kills. Additionally, Valenza amassed 13 digs and four blocks. Freshman setter
Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy) allocated 47 assists, to go along with nine digs and two kills. Senior libero
Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) racked up 14 digs and four aces.
