WALTHAM, Mass. (Sept. 5, 2015) - On Saturday, the LIU Post volleyball team wrapped up play at the Bentley University Invitational with a split versus Chestnut Hill College and 17th-ranked Florida Southern College at the Dana Center.
Match #1: LIU Post 3, Chestnut Hill 1 (25-12, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14)In the opening set, the Pioneers jumped out to a commanding 16-4 lead and never looked back. Sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter
Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.), who was selected to the All-Tournament Team with a tourney-best 52 kills, had four kills in the game. A kill from senior setter/right-side hitter
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) sealed the 25-12 first-set victory.
Despite dropping a tough second set to even the match at 1-1, LIU Post hit at stellar clips of .333 and .382 in the next two games to earn its third-straight win. Much like the first set, the green and gold held double-digit advantages in both the third and fourth games. In the three sets won, the Pioneers boasted a .350 attack percentage (43 kills, eight errors, 100 total attempts).
Four different players had double-doubles for LIU Post. Valenza accumulated a match-high 17 kills and 15 digs. Freshman setter
Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy) recorded 30 assists and 13 digs. Amador allocated 17 assists and slammed down 10 kills. Freshman outside hitter
Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) totaled 17 digs and 10 kills, to go along with five service aces.
Match #2: LIU Post 0, No. 17 Florida Southern 3 (23-25, 20-25, 12-25)Limited to only a .011 hitting percentage in the match, the Pioneers (3-1) fell to the Mocs (4-0) in three sets. Amador collected seven kills and six digs in the effort. Londot pitched in six kills and six digs. Junior middle hitter
Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) added three kills and three blocks.
LIU Post kept the first two sets close against its opposition. In fact, the green and gold owned five-point leads in both games, before Florida Southern rallied late.
In the first set, the Pioneers built a 17-12 cushion, via a block from Valenza and McCullouch. However, the Mocs stormed back with five unanswered points to tie the score, and eventually won the game on back-to-back blocks after the score was knotted at 23-all.

Shellane Ogoshi and her LIU Post squad are back in action Friday (Sept. 11), when they face Salem International University and Shepherd University at the Lock Haven University Tournament in Lock Haven, Pa. The matches are slated for 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. starts, respectively.
