Box Score

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 6, 2016) - On Wednesday, the LIU Post women's basketball suffered a 74-63 loss to Molloy College at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre.

The Pioneers fall to 1-12 on the year, including a 1-4 mark in East Coast Conference play, while Molloy improved to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in ECC contests.

It was a tale of two halves, as the Pioneers held a 31-30 advantage at halftime. The green and gold were led by senior forwards Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.) and Kalinka DeRoche (New Haven, Conn.), who scored seven points apiece. Freshman guard Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 from three-point range for six first-half points.

In the third quarter, the two teams traded baskets, until the Lions went on an 8-0 run to make it a 51-42 game with just over two minutes to go in the period. The Pioneers responded with an 8-0 run of their own to close the gap to just two points (51-49) at the end of the session.

In the final 10 minutes, Molloy opened up an 11-point lead with an 11-2 burst over the first three-plus minutes of the quarter. The Pioneers would cut the lead to single digits a few times over the final six minutes, but never got closer than nine points.

DeRoche and Davis both finished with double-doubles. DeRoche chipped in 11 points and brought down 11 boards, while Davis scored a team-high 12 points and hauled in 10 rebounds. Junior forward Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) added 11 points and seven rebounds. Doyle finished with 11 points off the bench.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Jan. 9), when they host Queens College in an ECC battle in Brookville. The opening tip is slated for 1:30 p.m.
