BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 9, 2016) - Behind a strong second-half effort from senior forward
Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.), the LIU Post women's basketball team rallied to defeat Queens College, 57-54, in East Coast Conference action Saturday at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Davis scored 15 second-half points, 13 of which came from the free-throw line, as the Pioneers (2-12, 2-4 ECC) erased a six-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter.
LIU Post led for most of the first quarter and took a 13-11 lead into the first intermission. In the second quarter, the Pioneers struggled from the floor, shooting just 1-of-13 and found themselves trailing 23-17 at halftime.
In the third, freshman guard
Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) hit a pair of three-pointers and went 3-for-4 from the line to lead the Pioneers with nine points, as Queens (5-5, 2-3 ECC) took a 40-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, the Knights held a 48-42 lead with 4:26 to go. Senior guard
Jalyn Brown (Riverhead, N.Y.) answered with a trey, before freshman guard
Amber Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) drained a three of her own to tie it up at 48-all. Later, with the score tied at 52-52, Davis hit a lay-up to give the Pioneers a 54-52 edge with 1:41 on the clock. Down the stretch, Davis hit 3-of-4 from the line to seal the win.
Davis finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Doyle chipped in 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals in 36 minutes of action.

Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to action on Tuesday (Jan. 12), when they take on New York Institute of Technology in an ECC contest in Old Westbury. The opening tip is slated for 5 p.m.
