ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 1, 2016) - On Saturday, the LIU Post volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (21-25, 24-26, 24-26) to East Coast Conference nemesis Roberrs Wesleyan College at the Voller Athletic Center.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) had nine kills in the loss, to go along with 14 digs. Junior outside/right-side/middle hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) registered eight kills and four blocks, in addition to 11 digs. Senior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) added six kills and six blocks.

The Pioneers (3-8, 0-2 ECC) led 12-10 in the opening set, until the Redhawks (6-7, 3-1 ECC) fired back with a 9-1 run to grab a 19-13 advantage. Senior opposite hitter Anjali Thomson (Mission Viejo, Calif.) slammed down three consecutive kills in the burst, including the go-ahead point.

That comeback proved to be all Roberts Wesleyan needed, as the hosts took the first game 25-21 on a kill by sophomore middle blocker/outside hitter Riley Moll (Orchard Park, N.Y.).

In the second set, the Redhawks jumped out to a 15-10 lead, but the Pioneers rallied with a 7-2 run to even the game at 17-all. LIU Post capitalized on four Roberts errors in the stretch, while McCullouch assisted on a pair of blocks.

The Pioneers eventually went up 23-20 in the set. However, the Redhawks forced extra points and came away with the 26-24 victory to grab a 2-0 edge in the contest.

In the third set, LIU Post rallied from a late 23-18 deficit to stay alive in the match. Londot notched back-to-back kills to ignite a 5-0 run that tied the score at 23-apiece.

Roberts Wesleyan pulled it out in the end though, as Kristina Button (Davison, Mich.) and Alexandre Tahauri (Hesperia, Calif.) recorded consecutive kills to close out a 26-24 win for the three-game sweep.

Head Coach Amanda Ostapow and the Pioneers are back in action Sunday (Oct. 2), when they square off with Daemen College in an ECC showdown at noon in Amherst.
