Women's Tennis Loses Close Match at Queens, 5-4

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2016) - The LIU Post women's tennis team snapped a three-match winning streak Tuesday with a 5-4 loss to Queens College in East Coast Conference action in Flushing.
The Pioneers (5-2, 4-2 ECC) took two of three doubles matches to grab the early lead. Sophomores
Stanislava Klymova (Dnipro, Ukraine) and
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) earned a hard-fought 9-8 win against Angelika Sobiecka (Mlawa, Poland) and Emy Alplund (Engelberg, Switzerland) at the No. 1 flight, after securing a 7-4 victory in the tiebreaker.
Sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bad Homburg, Germany) and freshman
Charlotte Hynes (Weston, Fla.) bested Laura Ortega Jover (Cuenca, Spain) and Araceli Bel (Tortosa, Spain) in second doubles, 8-3.
In singles, Scholtze was a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set victor against Ortega Jover at the No. 1 position. Then, in second singles, Arthur rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Ruth Artaza Martin (Bilbao, Spain).
However, the Knights (6-0, 4-0 ECC) won the last four singles matches to claim the victory, including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the No. 5 flight by Line Sorsdahl Aasen (Bergen, Norway).
