ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2016) - Sophomore back/midfielder
Alice Schonfeldt (Burtrask, Sweden) tallied the game-winning double-overtime goal Thursday to lift the No. 25 LIU Post women's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Molloy College in an East Coast Conference bout at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex.
Schonfeldt scored 5:22 into the second extra session, after putting back a
Gabrielle Clark (Edmonds, Wash.) rebound. The tally was her second game-winner and third goal of 2016.
In the first half, LIU Post (10-2-2, 4-1-1 ECC) sophomore goalie
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) turned aside all five shots she faced to keep the match scoreless at the conclusion of 45 minutes.
Eklow, who had seven saves on the day, made another stop early in the latter period. Meanwhile, Schonfeldt challenged Molloy (6-7-1, 3-3 ECC) sophomore goalie Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) in the 76th minute, but her try was knocked down by the Lions' keeper.
Schonfeldt was not done though. In the 106th minute, she beat Wilson to the left side of the net to extend the Pioneers' unbeaten streak to nine consecutive games.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and his LIU Post squad are back in action Saturday (Oct. 22), when they face ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas College in their 2016 regular-season home finale at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville. Kickoff is slated for noon.
