YAPHANK, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2016) - The LIU Post equestrian team collected 44 points Sunday to earn a high point finish at the Hofstra University Show at Good Shepherd Farm in Yaphank.
Four different Pioneers individually qualified for regionals at the competition. They were junior
Sara Peterson (Huntington, N.Y.), sophomores
Chloe Hoerner (Brightwaters, N.Y.) and
Jessica Sulkers (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and freshman
Gianna Perry (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.).
Peterson and Perry individually won their class in the walk-trot and walk-trot-canter. Hoerner secured a first-place ribbon in the novice flat and finished second in the intermediate fences. Sulkers had a third-place ride in the open fences and a fourth-place showing in the open flat.
Five other riders won their respective events. Senior
Alex Rand (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) bested her opposition in the open fences and placed second in the open flat. Junior
Mallory Slack (East Islip, N.Y.) was first in the intermediate flat and third in the intermediate fences. Sophomore
Alexandra Blach (East Williston, N.Y.) rode to a first-place effort in the walk-trot-canter.
Freshman
Jillian Lento (East Patchogue, N.Y.) joined Hoerner with a first-place finish in the novice flat. Fellow freshman
Alex Daskam (Southbury, Conn.) came in first in the novice fences, and added a second-place performance in the novice flat.
Freshman
Kate Galvin (Southington, Conn.) took second in the novice flat. Sophomore
Trina Aspenleiter (Levittown, N.Y.) finished second in the novice fences and third in the intermediate flat. Junior
Heather Grova (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had a second-place ride in the intermediate flat and a third-place showing in the intermediate fences.
Sophomore
Grace Tice (Simsbury, Conn.) placed second in the open fences and third in the open flat. Junior
Shannon Wright (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was third in the walk-trot.
Junior
Monica Moscoso (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) and freshman
Cara Sappelsa (Smithtown, N.Y.) and
Nicole Sinram (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) all earned third-place ribbons in the novice flat.
