Women's Tennis Drops 5-1 Decision to Queens in ECC Semifinals

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2016) - On Friday, the third-seeded LIU Post women's tennis team came out on the short end of a 5-1 loss to second-seeded Queens College in an East Coast Conference Championship semifinal in Flushing.
The Pioneers' (6-3) lone win on the afternoon came at second doubles. Sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bad Homburg, Germany) and freshman
Charlotte Hynes (Weston, Fla.) earned a hard-fought 8-6 win against Laura Ortega Jover (Cuenca, Spain) and Araceli Bel (Tortosa, Spain)
.
In the top-doubles flight, sophomores
Stanislava Klymova (Dnipro, Ukraine) and
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) fell to Angelika Sobiecka (Mlawa, Poland) and Emy Alplund (Engelberg, Switzeland), 8-6.
Meanwhile, in singles play, Hynes dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Alplund at the No. 4 position. Senior
Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) lost 6-0, 6-0 to Line Sorsdahl Aasen (Bergen, Norway) at fifth singles. Fellow senior
Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) suffered a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set defeat to Bel in the sixth-singles flight.
