Women's Fencing Opens 2016-17 Season at Drew Fall Classic
MADISON, N.J. (Nov. 7, 2016) - On Sunday, the LIU Post women's fencing team kicked off its 2016-17 campaign at the Drew Fall Fencing Classic, hosted by Drew University in Madison.
The Pioneers, who went 0-5 on the day, lost three of their matches by only a single point. Those defeats came at the hands of Wagner College (14-13), The College of New Jersey (13-12) and Temple University (11-10).
Junior
Chantelle Duncan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the way for the green and gold, posting a 12-3 record in epee. She won all three of her bouts against Wagner, Temple and Hunter.
Senior
Kirstan Shaw (South Setauket, N.Y.) fenced to a 2-1 mark in three epee matches, en route to finishing with a 7-5 mark.
In sabre, senior
Sophie Michaelides (Whitestone, N.Y.) compiled an 8-6 record. She was a perfect 3-0 in her bouts with TCNJ and Wagner.
Lastly, in foil, graduate
Brittany Burgos (Bronx, N.Y.) went 7-8 on the day. She collected three victories against Hunter, and won two bouts apiece versus TCNJ and Temple.
