GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Mar. 16, 2016) - On Wednesday, freshman catcher
Julia Seader (Piscataway, N.J.) drove in four RBIs in the opener, as the LIU Post softball team split with Adelphi University in a non-conference doubleheader at Janet L. Ficke Field.
Game #1: LIU Post 4, Adelphi 0Seader paved the way offensively for the Pioneers (7-5) in the first game, plating all four runs. She opened the scoring with a first-inning RBI double to right-center and later added a two-RBI single to center in the third, extending the green and gold's advantage to 3-0.
Then, in the top of the seventh, Seader, who went 3-for-4 in the opener, belted a two-out solo shot to right, making it a 4-0 game.
In the circle, junior pitcher
Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) flirted with a perfect game for 5.1 innings, retiring the first 16 batters she faced. Martin yielded only three hits and fanned seven in a complete-game shutout effort.
Game #2: LIU Post 2, Adelphi 11 - F/5Though LIU Post jumped out to an early lead on an
Isabella Corrao (Farmingdale, N.Y.) first-inning sacrifice fly, Adelphi (11-9) responded with seven runs in the first two frames to go in front for good.
Sophomore infielder Brenna Martini (Fairfield, Conn.) drove a three-run homer to right-center in the first, and added a two-RBI single to center in the second.
Freshman pitcher
Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) was tagged with the loss in the decision for the Pioneers. She scattered eight hits and seven runs (five earned) in 1.2 innings of work.
Meanwhile, Corrao came on in relief, pitching 2.1 frames of four-run, three-hit, four-walk, two-strikeout ball.

Jamie Apicella and the Pioneers return to action Sunday (Mar. 20), when they host Stonehill College in their 2016 home opener at 11 a.m. at the LIU Post Softball Complex in Brookville.
